La Aldea Doradal

In the heart of the Antioquia department in Colombia lies a small village that has captured the attention of locals and tourists alike: La Aldea, Doradal, also known as the ‘Colombian Santorini’.

 

This picturesque town is inspired by the aesthetics of the famous Greek island of Santorini, with its characteristic white houses and blue roofs and windows, that line the hills in a staggered pattern.

 

Although some suggest that the construction of La Aldea was initiated by Pablo Escobar, others say it was the initiative of local businessmen who saw Greek architecture as an opportunity to attract tourists, revitalise the region’s economy, and most importantly turn the page on a dark past.

 

It’s architectural style and vibrant streets now attract people and tourists from all over the country.
